The Amtrak to Long Island Corridor proposes new intercity passenger service extending from Ronkonkoma, NY on Long Island to Moynihan Train Hall at New York Penn Station (NYP) in New York City with service continuing south, including intermediate stops, to Washington, DC as part of Amtrak’s Northeast Regional (NER) service.

The service, which is envisioned for three daily round trips, would operate over Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (NEC), the Long Island Rail Road’s (LIRR) Main Line, and the LIRR’s Ronkonkoma Branch, with proposed intermediate stops at the LIRR’s existing Jamaica and Hicksville stations. The extension of NER service to Ronkonkoma would provide Long Island’s 5.4 million residents with an intercity rail alternative for the first time in over eighty years.

The extension of NER onto Long Island would also allow for an intercity passenger rail connection to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at Jamaica Station, via the JFK AirTrain, and to Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) at Ronkonkoma Station. Travel times from Ronkonkoma are expected to be approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes to Philadelphia and 5 hours to Washington, DC.
