Amtrak owns and operates the Northeast Corridor (NEC), which includes the existing and future replacement Susquehanna River Rail Bridge. The NEC is America’s busiest passenger rail corridor in the United States, stretching from Washington, D.C. to Boston, MA. Amtrak is leading the Susquehanna River Rail Bridge Project with support from MTA and FRA.
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) was created by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966. The FRA’s mission is to enable the safe, reliable, and efficient movement of people and goods for a strong America, now and in the future. The FRA is providing funding and is the federal oversight agency for the Susquehanna River Rail Bridge Project.
Maryland Transit Administration Department of Transportation (MTADOT)
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is a division of the Maryland Department of Transportation, and one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States. MTA operates Local Buses (CityLink and LocalLink), Commuter Buses, Light Rail, Metro Subway, Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) Train Service, and a comprehensive Paratransit (MobilityLink) system. MTA is providing financial and administrative support for the Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program.
