Amtrak, with federal funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), will begin construction of the new Frederick Douglass Tunnel (FDT) Program. These investments will unlock the biggest rail bottleneck between Washington, D.C. and New York, improving reliability and delivering faster travel times for millions of people.
The centerpiece of the FDT Program is a new tunnel named in honor of Maryland native, abolitionist, and civil rights leader Frederick Douglass.
